Found out this morning on my commute in to work when I checked my BlackBerry for messages.
There was a message from our CTO obviously sent to everybody, and the preview I saw on my screen said: "ATI and AMD...". That was pretty much told me all I needed to know.
The merger was actually a surprise to me. Of course the rumour has been circulating in the financial news for weeks, but my personal opinion was that the two companies were better as two separate entities than merged. Guess I was wrong. ;-)
While nobody who works in the tech sector can expect to feel "safe" where they are, I believe what we are doing is in my team is core to delivering good info to engineers, and that need is highly unlikely to go away. I won't go into details here, but I really do see this, as a (forgive the hackneyed phrase) "growth opportunity".
I'd be surprised if there isn't a business trip for me to Austin sometime in my near future.
