Heading to San Fran in Feb

There's an industry conference I will be presenting at in San Jose the first week of February. So basically I will be in California for almost a week in February, which is usually the worst month weather-wise in Toronto (or anywhere else in Ontario for that matter). So over Xmastime Erika and I talked about the possibility about heading down as a family. The room and my airfare is already paid for after all, and it is a chance for us all to head somewhere that is likely to be sunnier and warmer than at home.

Yesterday I had to book tickets and the room reservation for myself, so it was now or never. So after talking to Erika about it again last night, I pulled the trigger first thing this morning and bought everyone else their plane tickets.

We had initially thought that Erika and the girls could make a day excursion from where we are staying in San Jose to DisneyLand near San Diego. Can't be that far, right? So we committed an "ugly Canadian-ism" by thinking everything in California is close together -- according to Google maps it is over 450 miles to drive. Got a lesson in Californian geography today: San Jose/San Francisco is not within easy driving distance of San Diego/L.A. They are in the same state is about all you can say.

This is looking to be a year of travel for me at any rate: San Jose/San Francisco in February, I have another conference to present at in Boston at the end of March, and then there's Erika big 40th birthday bash in the south of France at the beginning of May. And that's not even half the year.
