Ultrasounds & Afghani Food
Ultrasound image (not ours)Yesterday was the day we went to have the second ultrasound done on the Schengili-Roberts Baby #2. It was also the day we fully introduced the concept of Vanessa having a baby sister or brother. Prior to this we've been hinting at the possibility of having a sibling, but haven't driven the point home -- until now. I talked to a few friends who have had multiple kids as to when to introduce the concept of an newly arriving baby to a current baby/child. The answer was essentially "as soon as possible", and so we decided to no longer keep it such a secret. I can understand why Erika was worried, because we could both picture Vanessa saying "where's the bay? where's the baby?" for the remaining five months. However, that's not what happened, and she seems more interested in baby-thing right now (including playing with her dolls and looking after them as babies). The doctor there recorded a six minute segment of the ultrasound, which I must have watched at least four or five times now. You can clearly see the baby's face (or more properly, its skull), legs, arms and the space he/she is living in. Unfortunately the baby was in the wrong position in order to determine its sex, so we are still in the dark about that. While watching the tape later at home, decided to check out to see what's on the Web regarding doing ultrasounds on fetuses -- was amazed to see how much was out there. Man, the Web is great! Now I know exactly what the doctor was looking for. My only regret is not having checked the Web beforehand... After the visit to the doctor, we ended up going to an Afghani restaurant called the "Chopan Kabob House" that was located practically across the street. This was our first time with Afghani food, which, judging by the dishes we had, seems to be something of a cross between Indian food and Greek food. We ended up ordering kebabs (which Erika thought were "too burnt"), all of their appetizers and some very aromatic Green tea. Vanessa may not have got the hot dog she originally asked for, but she came away with a full tummy (as did we all).
