Still no baby as yet, though the due date (Thursday) draws near. This means more time to get things set up for baby -- and for us -- prior to the arrival.
David R. (Erika's step-father) came around and set up a change table in the 3rd floor washroom, as well as helping to set our rather cumbersome mirror in the 2nd floor washroom. My major effort was spent setting up a very colourful ceiling fan in what will one day become the baby's room, and rather surprised myself at getting all of the electrical connections right the first time. ;-) On some non-baby related things, I managed to get my Titus poster framed, sort through my clothes in an effort to thin things out, and finally threw a 64MB RAM chip I've had lying about for almost a year into my tired old 333Mhz Pentium II system, which gave it a noticeable jump in performance. Which reminds me that I must get myself a 256MB chip or two for my main 800Mhz Pentium III machine, now that prices are so cheap!
Erika was wiped by day's end yesterday, so I took Vanessa out last night to see the Street Festival part of the Beaches Jazz Festival. We saw a number of bands, most of them only vaguely related to jazz -- "jazz, what jazz?" -- in style, but the funk factor has definitely been upped a notch or two this year, so it was lots of fun. Vanessa danced when she was on the ground, and when the crowds got too thick, she "danced" with a newly acquired balloon dog on my shoulders. The blues band in front of the old firehall was really rockin' as well as the Juno-nominated blues band (that's what their prominent sign said ;-) set in front of the Lion on the Beach bar. Vanessa had a good time (as did I) but after watching several bands she told me that she had had enough and wanted to go home. I didn't see her expression, but Erika said that Vanessa had a smile a mile long when she run in the back door, so she thoroughly enjoyed herself. She stayed up way past her bedtime, almost to 9:30pm. ;-)
