Normally this wouldn’t necessarily rate an entry, but it seems like I’ve been so busy of late that I haven’t called Mom for at least a couple of weeks. So I spent the time yesterday evening and spent a good 40+ minutes on the phone. I think I did most of the talking, but Mom was glad to hear about the updates on the girls, especially of Annie. She commented that a friend of hers looked at the pictures of a several-day-old Annie and thought she looked a lot older than she did, primarily due to her animated face.
Mom is also taking seriously my suggestion about recording her family history, much like my Aunt Edith C. did. She mentioned that she is taking notes in order to get a rough order for her presentation. I realized that the tape machine she has at the house may not actually have a voice record function, so I told her how to test for it. If not, I’ll buy a small recorder and send it her way – am fascinated to hear what she’ll have to say. I also invited her around for another visit – though come to think about it, maybe it would be more practical if I go and visit her instead prior to Xmas.
More Work on The Book
Managed to get a lot of work done on the book. I didn’t actually finish off section 1 as I had planned, but the more I delved into the CSS3 specification, the more I realized I had to change the current structure of the book. Without going into fine detail, I’ve decided to merge everything: CSS1, CSS2, CSS3 plus IE and NN extensions to CSS into one big section, so no artificial CSS1, CSS2 and CSS3 sections. Am projecting about 25 or so different chapters to the book, and I transmitted the details this morning to my editorial contact.
The only bit I find daunting is the Scalable Vector Graphics section of CSS3, which I suspect could easily be a book in and of itself (maybe that will be my next book? ;-) I believe that this had been a separate development track, and was surprised to find it part of the proposed CSS3 spec (though I can definitely see where it fits in).
