I got the following email this morning from Bryce in Montreal:

Dear Friends,

I am writing to pass on some very shocking and sad
news. I still don't really think I have absorbed it..

This morning I was searching for the comics in the
paper and was stunned to see an obituary for Mary. It
said she had passed away in her home, and that details
of the service would follow.

Anyway, I thought I should pass the information on to
you. Nothing else to say, really...

I can't believe this is true. I'd like to think that there must be another "Mary Melenca" in Montreal who has died, but I remember Mary herself telling me once that she was the only Melenca in the phone book.

It was just over a month ago when I saw her in Montreal. She seemed good then. I have to wonder what the heck happened. Details spotty -- all I know as I write is what is in the email above.
