Today I had a long-overdue talk with several publishing reps at Prentice Hall, discussing issues relating to my forthcoming book on CSS. We talked about release dates, the fact that I am trying to time the release of the book to the impending launch of the CSS3 specification, and how to coordinate things amongst the various Prentice Hall contacts.
For Monday, I promised a revised outline, containing all of the CSS3 properties, IE CSS extensions and other new sections to be added over the previous outline I submitted. At times I feel overwhelmed by the amount of new material, but then I remember how much new material I have already managed to cover. Besides, when I discover a trick with a new CSS property, it’s like finding a new toy: I love playing with it in code, and writing about it. Still have a lot of writing to do though, no matter how you look at it.
One thing I managed to arrange is to switch the grant I was supposed to get for developing a Core CSS Web site (which I’ve already made arrangements for, and will launch closer to the time when the book is to become available), to enable me instead to buy myself an iMac, the only platform I don’t have a test machine for. Am already scouting out local places that sell used iMacs -- a basic first generation iMac will do, though it would be nice to spend a bit more and get one with a Firewire connection that may also enable Erika to do video editing of our home movies.
