When I realized the scope of what needed doing today, I sent in an email saying that I'd be off for the whole day instead of just for the afternoon.
Erika needed some pictures transferred from the digital camera in order to send them by email to a colleague. Erika is having a sound cart made for all of her location sound equipment, a standard, highly-portable way of getting your sound equipment to set. So I did that for Erika, and started to record some old rock and roll songs onto tape for a mixed car-driving tape.
Having promised earlier to get bagels from the market, and this morning being my last chance to do so, I took Vanessa with and snagged 6 dozen. Vanessa charmed the lady serving us, and she was given a chocolate chip bagel s a result. We then visited the live lobsters (again, a helpful young lady there took out a lobster for Vanessa to have a closer look, and while she always likes looking at them, she can't bring herself to touch one). We sat down at a nearby stool and Vanessa happily munched away on the still-fresh bagel. On the way out we grabbed some fresh strawberries and took a taxi with all of our booty home.
Once home, I finished my packing and started taking luggage out to the truck. Erika was busily getting packing for herself and the kids, as well as making sure that there was enough baby food for Annie. I asked Vanessa to go and get what toys and books she wanted to bring with her, which she then packed away.
By now the maid we had hired for the day had arrived, and already there was a lemony "clean" smell beginning to pervade the house.
The baby went down for her mid-day nap, and I stayed at home while Erika took Vanessa to school. As it was the school-day closest to Mother's Day, there was a special "Mother's Day" party planned for all the kid's Moms that Erika vowed to attend.
Meanwhile at home I tended to last-minute things while Annie slept. I realized then that there was one thing we had forgotten to pack away: the portable crib. So after calling Erika to make sure there wasn't something else planned, I packed it up, and then shortly thereafter got Annie up, and whisked both of ourselves away to rendezvous at Vanessa's school.
A beaming Erika and Vanessa came out at 3pm. Erika had had a great time: the kids set up tables for each of the Moms and waited on them with teas, coffees and treats. They were also entertained with a play put on by the kids (Vanessa played a little girl who's school is invaded by pigs. Don't ask). We all piled into the truck and headed off for Jenny and Hugh's.
The trip there was long and largely uneventful. To entertain the kids we sang lots of kids songs (Erika has a surprisingly good memory for these).
We arrived at Jenny and Hughs' at about 7pm. I hauled in everything from the truck and we were immediately greeted with dinner. The kids were put to bed soon after, and the adults kibitzed over a bottle of wine until tiredness overcame all of us and we all fell to our respective beds.
