Yard Sale-o-rama
Today was the appointed day for the big, "triangle"-wide yard sale. The local association organizes a big yard sale event so that people in the Triangle area (bounded by Queen Street to the south, Kingston Road to the north and Woodbine to the east) have their sales on this day.

Knowing it was coming, I've slowly been stockpiling things to sell on this day.

At about 9am I started moving things outdoors. A pair of Braun speakers from Jean (early 70s vintage) were snapped up almost as soon as they were both put out on the front lawn. Things progressed from there.

We managed to clear a lot of old things out that were taking up space, several sets of old speakers, a box full of my late Father's camera equipment (minus one camera for sentimental reasons), a bunch of video tapes, baby car seats, a spare crib etc etc etc.

Over the course of about 5 hours we cleared out a lot of stuff at bargain prices (few things, whatever they were, went for more than a toony), and made just over a couple hundreds bucks as a result.

Erika and I both had turns looking at everybody else's sales in the area. Vanessa purchased a colourful plastic bracelet and a Barbie dress for about a dollar, and I came away with 8 copies of The Beaver magazine (a Canadian history magazine, honest!) for a quarter apiece. Erika just chatted to some of our neighbours on her tour of the area. She and a couple of the boys from down the street ended up playing with their newly acquired toys on our front lawn.

We still had a few things left over at the end, including a bunch of books that will eventually end up donated to the local library.

Of course, all of this extra space this opened up made something else possible...

Erika's New Office
About a week ago Erika mentioned that she'd like to get make a space for her sound equipment in the small basement room next to my office area. Problem was, it was stacked to the ceiling with stuff.

But after the yard sale, it didn't seem so packed anymore. So...

I proposed taking what was left in the room and making more efficient use of our main storage area just beside he basement stairs.

Several hours later, Erika's new space was cleared out. The storage area looks more daunting to be sure, but it is also more organized. Was amazed at how much storage space was being used for toys and baby clothes -- about a half-dozen large plastic container's worth. Ouch! We'll be able to recover much of this space when Annie goes through these in a few years time...

The walls of Erika’s new office were pretty scuffed up from all of the things that had been put in there over the years (the previous owners had had metal shelving that left plenty of these marks). So Erika started going through the tins of paint to see what we had. We started out painting the room white, but then ran out of paint. So two walls are white, the rest a light yellow (which managed to use up another tin of paint. ;-)

Now also she needs a desk or table to put in there. Too bad we didn’t think about this earlier, as we could’ve bought something that would have done for cheap at the sale earlier in the day.
