Today I got up early in order to make sure that the kids got their flight to Saskatchewan early this morning. The had to be out the door by about 6:30am in order to also enough time (so I judged) to get to the airport and do all they needed to do to catch their flight. This was a particularly hard thing for John, who's "morning" often hasn't started until the afternoon. ;-) I got coffee and tea ready for 'em as well as a toasted bagel to see them on their way.
It's funny, but this really all started yesterday. With the new dial-up modem installed in my base computer, I was able to download my kabillion emails over the past week, primarily work-related. But one was from my cousin Howard, John's father. It said that he hoped all went well with his flight tomorrow (meaning Monday). This is a ticket which Howard had purchased for John and Faye on their behalf in England.
John had told me that he was heading out Thursday, so when I met John and Faye off to have their breakfast (at around 1pm) while walking down Queen Street, doing some errands, I mentioned this to John. He flipped. (Faye's response was "Oh no, we're not going to spend another full week in hillbilly-land, are we?" I guess John has really been building up Saskatoon to Faye. ;-)
By the time he and Faye returned, he had convinced himself that it was Thursday after all. Turns out that he had flubbed the dates from an earlier email he had received, thinking that "08/05/02" was "August 8th", and not "August 5th" (I know it could be more probably construed as "May 8th, but "May" simply didn't figure in John's mind). So there was a lot of last-minute packing and canceling of plans that had to be done.
While in Saskatoon he'll se his mother and go to a cousin's wedding (which was the whole impetus for his heading out West).
They're back briefly for just over a day beginning late on the 3th. Faye has been trying to get to Wonderland for much of this trip, and she got buy-in from John that they'll head there on the 14th when they get back from out West.
They've been here for over a month. The place is oddly quiet without 'em. They're great, but it is nice to get the house back to ourselves all the same.
