Vanessa's First Ballet Class
She was so excited -- and scared -- about going to this class. I think she was scared about having to perform right away, despite repeated assurances that that wouldn't happen. She apparently had a dream/nightmare about not being the prettiest girl there' afraid her costume wouldn't measure up somehow. This carried over even immediately prior to class, as she broke into tears when she saw many of the other little girls there had tutu-like fringes on their costumes and she didn't. More re-assurances as I led her inside the class. Vanessa wasn't the only teary little girl there, and the ballet teacher was very good with them all, taking each by the hand and telling them they were all going to have lots of fun.

A half hour latter a very happy Vanessa emerges, telling me about all of the things she did: pretending to be a bird, then a goblin, and how they stretched to reach stars from the sky, pluck them, polish them and then gingerly put the star back. She had a blast, and was now all keen to go to her next class the following Saturday.
