Another Visit to Mom in the Hospital
I am glad to say that Mom is much improved over my previous visit last weekend. Last weekend I really thought she might be at death's door, but by today she had regained a lot of her strength and was about as lucid as she gets now.

Her cough seems to largely be gone, and a gather from her nurse that she is expected to be released back to her nursing home sometime this coming week (and earlier rather than later, showing just how much she has improved).

I had a nice visit with her, and told her all about the latest goings-on with my girls. I refrained from mentioning her brother's death -- while improving physically her mental state is still on the fragile side, and she confessed to me more than once (i.e. she didn't remember after I had told her) as to why she was in the hospital (pneumonia), where she would go after she got out of the hospital (back to The Willows nursing home) for example. She confessed to feeling a little bit scared and lonely, due I think in large part to her memory loss (if she can't remember why she is in the hospital, this naturally leads her to the somewhat paranoid -- though under the circumstances, reasonable -- question: 'why am I here?')

I for one am glad that she has improved so much, and with luck, will see her next week at the nursing home!

When I got home, I found an exhausted Erika. I offered a take-out dinner after she went across the street to practice her trumpet playing with Dave B. from across the street (horrors! her brass band has its Xmas concert tomorrow!), Vanessa went out to a friend's for a play-date, and Annie had a great time playing with water in the kitchen sink.

After the kids were put to bed, Erika and I spent a pleasant evening watching Michael Palin's Sahara.
