Sleepover Breakfast
In the morning we determined that Annie had an allergic reaction to something, as she was covered from head to toe in a rash. At first we had a brief scare thinking it might be chicken pox, but Annie seemed happy and the condition cleared up by itself by mid-day. We suspect some ingredient in the ice-cream cake served last night, since that was the only novel food she had yesterday. Will have to keep an eye out for other possible allergens, now that we believe she is susceptible.

Erika and I both got up early in order to prepare for an onslaught of kids in the morning. As it turned out, we need not have bothered. I made a huge batch of waffles for what I expected to be a ravenous horde of kiddies, and instead they played in Vanessa's bedroom, ate a few bites of breakfast, and then promptly went back upstairs for more fun.

It was a surprisingly peaceful morning, save for the odd bump and indignant screech from upstairs.

The parents started to pick up their little ones at about 10:30am, and things got back to their normal routine.

One of the presents Vanessa was particularly keen on was the Harry Potter's Potions Class. Since she was so keen on creating her own "potions" and helping her Mother in the kitchen, I thought that it might a good present for her, even if it was more for show that for actually making anything. I got it as a birthday gift for her on behalf of her Nana back in early December, so it, along with a Rupert annual I found in a used book store, are the last gifts she'll get from Nana. I am pretty sure the significance was lost on her, but it cheered me up to say that they ultimately came from Nana.

Vanessa vividly remembered the TV ad for her present: it featured one potion which accidentally turned the kids using it into pigs. She expressed concern over the fact that we had to be careful which potion to use, otherwise we might turn into pigs. She urged me to taste the first concoction we made before her. I tasted it, and then started talking in oinks. Vanessa tried some and then Erika said she thought she saw a little piggy tail growing out of Vanessa's backside. We played it up, though unfortunately poor Vanessa thought it was real, and I had to stop oinking in order to console her. The "potion" we tried turned out to be Kool Aide or something similar -- good sugar-charged fun.

Rest of the day was largely uneventful -- Erika took the kids out to the park while I dealt with tax-related paperwork, we all had a much-needed nap in the afternoon, and I set up a wireless access-point in the house in order to connect the new notebook to the rest of the computers in the house.
