Today our financial advisor came around for her visit. I have to say I really like her, not just because she comes to visit us (instead of us having to visit her) but her financial planning advice seems sound. Sure she is trying to sell us plans from her own company, but where we have been able to get slightly better rates for things elsewhere, she is no less keen on providing the best advice on how to use those resources effectively.
It being RSP season, I signed over a sizable cheque taken from my inheritance money to go towards it. Despite best intentions, I haven't taken full advantage of my RSP contributions in the past, so it was good to more than make up with them with this. Nice thing is that I should get a heck of a good tax rebate back from the government, which can go towards paying down more of the mortgage.
Am glad I did this, but let's face it, putting money away in an RSP is pretty boring stuff to do with one's money. There are other financial plans in the works, but it good to know that the financial planning she had for us was flexible enough to allow us to have some "fun money" left over – enough to hopefully redo the living room and do some travel as well.
