Crossed another major milestone with regard to the book: after finishing a couple of edits to some chapters that Bill had done his tech edit job on, as well as completing work on a couple of appendices, I worked on the introductory material for the book. At least for me, writing the introductory material is traditionally the final piece of fresh writing I have to do. Dedicated the book to Annie ("It's her turn ;-)" I added). There's still plenty of work to be done, but from this point on I am just revising edits and proofing rather than having to create wholly new material, so the hard part is over. I also have to begin compiling the material for the Web site in support of the book.
After this was completed, I started work in earnest on the material for my course at the U. of T. starting on Tuesday. Seems odd to be starting a course during March Break. Main thing I had to get done was the handout material, which needed to be in to the office by Monday morning. This will be the first time I teach this material, and as always it is hardest to judge how much material I can effectively put across in 3 hours, (or strictly speaking, 2½ including breaks). I'd rather err on the side of too much than too little. First lesson is designed to be a fairly easy introduction to how to use CSS. If you are interested, my handout is here, which just covers the practical work that will be covered in-class.
