"So Long and Thanks for all the Fish"
Today was my last day of my contract with DV. So, that job is now finally and fully over. I sent an email in the morning to everybody at the Canadian office, detailing the things that I had done over the course of my final two-week contract, and added a "last call" notice in case they wanted anything else done today that I could help. The latter was there more so that I don't get bugged my Michael W. asking for freebies months afterwards – something that has happened in the past with previous employees who have left the firm. I've made it known that if he needs anything else done from me, he'll need to get me on another contract first. It's my way of ensuring a clean break – and if it ends up being not so clean, at least I will profit from it. Purely business.

I concluded the email with the Douglas Adams' quote. I got a few emails in reply containing sad smileys.

Things are far from dire. At the moment there's plenty of funds stockpiled in our bank account, enough to coast us through another month and a half without having to dip further into savings. I should also be getting a bonus due to me from DV from work done last year, though going by previous experience I won't hold my breath (I'll likely get it, but I'd be surprised if it actually comes in May as was originally promised). Spent time with the fax machine sending off dental and prescription glasses receipts in order to ensure I got my claims in before my benefits expire.

Bye bye Digital View. I wish ‘em well. It was definitely time for me to move on though.
