Vanessa's been all excited about this day. At her schools over the past week she has been making various pictures, cards and crafts for the big day. On Wednesday there was the big "Mother's Tea" at her afternoon school, where Erika and all of the other mothers were given tea and biscuits by their children. Today: breakfast in bed and the opening/presenting of all of the things Vanessa had created over the week. I got up and did most of the preliminaries for making a waffle breakfast, and Vanessa ferried the food and coffee to her Mom. In between waffles I brought Annie down so she could join in the fun as well, and so at one point everybody – even the cat – was on the master bed.
Sunday is normally "my day", but I thought I'd help the kids make the most of the day and ended up sticking around. I sent Erika and Vanessa off to see a matinee performance of Spirited Away at the local Fox theatre, while I stayed behind at the house while Annie slept. Vanessa had watched parts of the movie before on my computer, so I figured she'd be okay through the scarier sections, and I was right. Erika had some real Mom moments holding Vanessa's hand during the show while they both munched on popcorn. Both came back beaming about the movie.
