I noticed the other day that my interview with StarROMs co-founder Frank Leibly had been published in the online edition of Performance PC Canada. Since I had first heard about the firm through a news item on Slashdot, I decided to submit a link to the piece on the site. It’s the first time in about 3 years that I’ve submitted a story idea to them.
When I logged into the site at work I discovered that they had accepted the story. So I sat back and waited for it to appear on the main site. I told some friends and colleagues to look for the piece. And I waited some more. After doing some more digging I discovered that my piece had received a “minor slashdotting”.
I had long known that Slashdot had sections dedicated to particular topics, like Apache, Apple. Books and so on. But I had always assumed that pieces only got moved onto these sections after first receiving exposure on the “main” page. Not so, as it turned out – my story went straight to the Games section. So it didn’t get as much exposure as it would have had it appeared on the main page, but at least it was there.
Even a minor Slashdotting is still cool, as far as I am concerned. ;-)
