Caved in and bought Doom 3 yesterday. I had already obtained a pirated version of its three CDs a couple of days before, but I had not even gotten around to installing them, mainly because I do believe in shelling out for games. Nice to also think that I am doing my bit to help John Romero to get into space. ;-)
Oddly enough it's my third such game this year after Unreal Tournament 2K4 and Far Cry -- this after typically buying one such game every other year or so. Must have something to do with working at a graphics card company.
I picked it up at a FutureShop close to work, and it was nice to see that they were touting our high-end Radeon 9800 AGP board beside an ultra-cool 21" flat panel Samsung monitor and other cool computer gear.
The unfortunate thing is that I may have to finally upgrade my main system at home, which in addition to getting long-in-the-tooth is growing increasingly flakey. A good registry clean-up would probably do wonders, as would re-installing the OS, but I'll be casting a keen eye at the first PCIe-based systems that ought to be coming out soon.
