Added New Entry to Wikipedia
Clicking on my bookmark link to Wikipedia has become an enjoyable daily ritual for me, and is in my top list of Web links I read, along with the likes of the more computer-oriented Slashdot and The Register.

I love the hypertext nature of Wikipedia, and how reading one thing leads naturally to other topics of interest. For example, a visit to a page on Montreal's Expo 67 led me to Charles de Gaulle, then to an entry on Down's Syndrome (de Gaulle's daughter had Down's). It is a real font of knowledge, and while not all entries are encyclopedic in the strictly academic sense, they are usually interesting.

More recently I have been joining in and expanding existing entries. First one was for the entry for The Frantics comedy group, and more recently the entry on the town I grew up in, Keswick, Ontario, adding material on the Stephen Leacock Theatre and how it came about in no small effort from then fellow resident "Whipper" Billy Watson (who unfortunately does not have a separate entry in the encyclopedia, but that can be remedied one day).

After putting the girls to bed this evening I went browsing around, and after adding a further minor update to the page for The Frantics, I went to the general category of Canadian radio programs. The list is far from complete, but it does contain a number of significant radio shows, though leaning heavily towards more recent and extent programs. One absence I noted was that there was no entry for Gilmour's Albums, so I started one. ;-)

I loved the show as a kid, and it was a regular staple in my parent's household every Sunday afternoon for at least a decade. His warm introductory and signature "hello" was usually echoed by mock-"hellos" in the same manner from me and my Dad. He tended to play more opera than I could easily take, but I always enjoyed the closing pieces, where Gilmour introduced me to the comedy of everything from The Goons to Peter Sellers, the classic sketches of Bob Newhart to the very odd song stylings of the like of Jerry Colonna or Tiny Tim. I think it's fair to say I got my start in eclectic music tastes from this show.

So I ended up making an entry for it in Wikipedia. Hopefully other people will add something more substantial to it over time.

Will have to make that entry for Delrina that I promised some of my fellow ex-Delrina-ites sometime soon...
