Return of the 'S' Web Site
Got an email from Bryce today noting that the Miscellaneous S web site was no more. It had previously been hosted by Toby, but with his passing I guess the Web account lapsed. No surprise there really, and I remember downloading copies of the pages comprising his site soon after his death for archival purposes.

With Bryce's email I went back to those files and discovered, too late, that Rogers (who had hosted the site) had some anti-piracy code inserted into their Web pages that meant I had most of the images from the pages but little else. All you get when you load the page file locally is a redirect to the actual site -- which no longer exists of course.

In any event I had the chance to work through my backup files and found a copy of the what I think are all of the original files for the site, most from circa 1999. The site as it stands is just over 1MB in size, and is as ugly as sin (largely deliberately, given our ethos). Have uploaded the lot as an adjunct of this site at: http://www.captmondo.com/miscellaneous_s/.

Would like to do something more definitive, though it would most likely be more for the members of the band and the very few morbidly musically curious people out there interested in our little lo-, lo-fi garage band. I'd upload MP3s for download, maybe include some of the snippets of amusing chatter between takes from the master tapes I am slowly processing, and add tribute pages for both Toby Steel and Alan Wright.

One of Toby's characteristically mischievous ideas was to issue a 'Compleat S', which would essentially be all of the studio sessions rendered straight to CD, and placed in a small wooden box that would be really hard to open up. Typical Toby, but the idea has stuck in my head, and given the cheapness of CDs these days, entirely feasible. It tickles my sense of the absurd, so I may have to do that.

Until then, Miscellaneous S has its small corner of the Web back.
