Finally had the exterminator (not of the Dalek variety) come in to try to rid us of the black carpenter ants that have been around in small but constant numbers in the house since March. We had to vacate the house for a few hours in order to let the poison dissipate, so we took the girls to the International Milk Children’s Festival at Harbourfront.
We got there around mid-afternoon, discovering that it was no longer a free festival as it had been the last time I had taken Vanessa too it a few years back. Real sticker shock at $9 per person, which added up for the 4 of us. The $15 fee that included seeing a performance on stage made it prohibitive. A family rate would have been appreciated.
When we got in it didn't seem to offer much, if anything, beyond what had been available when it was a free and open venue. It was certainly not as lively or vibrant, and we began to wonder what we had spent the money on.
I may grumble but the kids did have fun: Annie coloured, had her face painted and spent a long time squeezing and then fashioning plastercine hairs squeezed out of a pink plastic pony toy; Vanessa caught a music show featuring highland dancers with her mother, made a craft and also got her face painted as well.
Fun was had, though I doubt we will be back come next year, as it didn't really seem to give the best value for the money.
