Learning Hieroglyphics
Not so much to learn the language (a facility I never seemed to have a knack for, save English) but to learn how to properly transcribe, at least when it comes to the names of Egypt's pharaohs. After a few days of hacking away at it in the evenings for fun, have posted the hieroglyphic forms of the names for several Old Kingdom pharaohs, including the ones you can see for Sneferu, Huni and Sekhemkhet. Can now piece together the glyphs necessary from Gardiner's list, which is more comprehensive than the glyphs that simply convey sound values. Have also figured out their canned serekh/cartouche auto-formatting mechanism, which took a number of tries to figure out.

A nice introduction to the language, as well as to the subject as a whole. Have also realized as a result that the current form doesn't seem to allow for the full form of either the Horus name or the throne name, which usually appear with certain standard glyphs in front of them, denoting kingly titles. Will have to go into the appropriate area and discuss it with others who are arguably more in the know.
