Ever since I took Annie to my optometrist and discovered that she had roughly the same astigmatism I have, we've known we had to get glasses for Annie. I had gotten some coupons in the mail from Lenscrafters, and Erika had (literally) a couple of hours between the end of her yoga session and the time she needed to go for her East York Concert Band concert, so we headed downtown to the Eaton Centre (is it still called that?) where I typically have gone to get my sets of glasses since moving back to Toronto after my University days.
Zipped down there and had a quick lunch in the north food court -- Japanese noodles for everyone except Annie who wanted New York fries and a hotdog (her Mom got her a small salad for some nutritional redemption). Then we zoomed over to the Lenscrafters store from the lower-most level of the foodcourt to the upper-most level where the store was.
They had a small but decent selection of frames available for kids. Vanessa and Annie both oooh-ed and ahhh-ed over some pink and purple frames, but most of those were too large for Annie's face. Was thankful that they weren't as large and chunky as my first pair of glasses when I was a couple of years older than Vanessa is now, though I found it funny at how many were in a vaguely horn-rimmed style, which would make my four-year old daughter look a bit too much like a stereotypically 50s-era librarian.
Erika found a nice-looking metal frame with large hooks at the back designed to wrap around the back of the ear and not fall off. Annie hated it. Instead Annie found a nice-looking clear plastic frame with a small purple half-flower on its left-side; subtly stylish really. On my advice we compromised on practicality vs. style, and ended up getting both frames, since I figured it would be a good idea to get a regular pair of frames as well as a back-up for my rough-and-tumble little Annie.
One of their lens-grinding machines was down, so we could pick up the frames within the usual hour they tout in their ads. So we left the Eaton Centre and either I or Erika will return later this week in order to pick them up.
