Today my boss at work announced that he was resigning to the rest of team, and that I would become Acting Manager in his stead for the next three months.
I knew about this impending announcement late last week when I was told about it in person. The timing was a shock, but as a whole the announcement didn't come as a complete surprise, since Kevin B. has appeared pretty stressed of late. He is leaving for purely personal reasons, taking a lesser position at a firm situated 2km from his current home, within walking distance. The commute for him from Burlington is killer, something I can completely sympathize with.
Am up for the extra challenge, as I was beginning to feel stuck in a rut, so the move upwards comes at a good time. There is competition for the position so this will not be a "coronation", but I prefer things this way.
Will genuinely miss Kevin though, as he was an excellent manager, genuinely supportive of my efforts and a friend (the utter contrast to my previous manager could not be more clear, ugh).
Just wish I had a bit more time to get acclimatized to the position first, but this is leavened by the fact that I've held the same position previously when Kevin went on paternity leave for several months a year ago. Still lots to learn and adjust to though.
Will genuinely miss Kevin at the office though.
