After teaching the second all-day class for my Information Architecture course, I came home and got changed for the house-warming party at Leslie's new place later that evening.
She's a recent divorcee who formerly lived on Dixon and somehow managed to find a rental house on adjacent Rainsford for herself and her two boys. Erika dressed up to the nines and looked fabulous. Since I am not much of a party or night person, we arranged that she could go out dancing that evening with the rest of the gang of friends and neighbours who were expected to be at the party and would migrate to a dance-club afterwards.
It was my first chance to get re-acquainted with some of our neighbours since the big laneway party at the start of summer. It was good to chat with people and see what they were up to. Drank beer and then dipped into the sangria (not a good combo, as it would turn out) while some of the older neighbourhood kids went around being highly efficient hosts/hostesses carrying party trays of tasty morsels to everyone in attendance.
After being there a couple of hours I was beginning to feel less comfortable and less sociable. I am really not a party person and usually feel like retreating after an hour or two tops. Something about being in a house that seems increasingly smaller and more claustrophobic as people pile in.
I said my goodbyes privately to Erika and made my way to the local cinema to catch the late-night showing of Serenity.
