Woke up this morning with a mild headache, which I figured was likely a slight hangover I had from the mixed drinks (beer and sangria) I had at the party the previous night. Took a couple of aspirin and had plenty to drink to re-hydrate myself and hoped it would go away.
On the whole it was a good day. Erika had stayed out much later than I had, and since I taught during the day yesterday, today was very much a "Daddy day". A good day for it too: relatively warm, sunny weather, so I took the girls out for breakfast and made our way to a couple of the local playgrounds while Erika slept in.
The headache persisted, and by late afternoon was getting worse, not better. I only realized it had progressed to becoming a full-blown migraine after Erika had left for her yoga class, and I ended up ordering a Chinese dinner from the Goof since I knew I wouldn't be able to concentrate enough to make something myself.
When Erika got back I retreated thankfully to a darkened bedroom, which immediately made me feel slightly better. No visual auras this time around, but a throbbing headache that felt like an invisible vice was gripping my temples. The fact that regular aspirin didn't even touch this headache and that I immediately felt better in a dark, quiet(er) room were further confirmation, if I needed any, that this was a migraine. Some deep breathing and rubbing of my temples helped, but it was only after having the Tylenol 3 that Erika suggested I take that allowed me to fall into sleep.
Am so glad I don't get these more than a couple of times a year, though I'd be even happier if I didn't have them at all. Worse part was knowing that I had missed out on a few precious hour's of time I would have otherwise spent with my kids and wife, instead of being in bed.
