I was listening to a previous Vestibules' comedy CD I have on my iPod while traveling to work the other day, and decided to see what the latest news was with them.
Turns out that sometime earlier this year they had released a short album's worth of new material, called "Chest of Drawers 5.0". And it was $3 U.S. to buy online.
After a bit of a rigmarole with PayPal (I already had an account but couldn’t remember my password), I bought and downloaded it.
The first skit is easily the best, about applying the idea of what would happen if we applied software updates to furniture items. Insightful and very funny. The other good skits include the "99 Giveaway" skit where a radio station contest gone spectacularly wrong, "Lenny's Novelty Shop" which is a mock ad for a store that sells “novelty solutions”, and the "Blockbuster" skit, where a customer goes in to get a couple of movies, and thanks to various deal ends up leaving with 20.
The only disappointing thing was the relatively low bit rate: 96/kbps. Okay, it's only spoken word and not music, but when I record radio shows for later listening, I use 128/kbps as a minimum, so the ones I downloaded sounds distinctly "thin".
