Our first flight was scheduled for early in the evening, just past six o'clock, so we had much of the day to get packed and get ready for the long trek ahead of us.
Erika had arranged for a mini-van to pick us up at about 2:30pm, after first picking up Erika's sister Jennifer and David who were staying at Jean's. It turned out that Jennifer was bringing two of her dogs along as well. This unfortunately caused some issues at the airport, since apparently they both required leashes, though they were sequestered in a couple of appropriately sized "critter carriers". It was just as well we left earlier as it took a good hour or so to get things sorted out after scrabbling together something for a leash.
The flight was via Lufthansa, which didn't offer much in terms of leg-room for me, and unfortunately did not have much to offer the kids by way of entertainment, as did our last Air France flight, which offered games and shows on a little LCD screen mounted on the seat in front. They were at least handed some puzzles and games which kept them both happy and occupied, and Erika had bought some sticker books which went down very well with both girls After they had been played out, the portable DVD player I brought along filled in the gap until everybody (save myself) fell asleep.
The onboard movie was the Johnny Cash biopic "Walk the Line", which I watched sans sound, since the audio connection wasn't working on my armrest. It looked like a good movie.
Was amazed at how well-behaved the two dogs were. Both were stowed in their critter carriers by the feet of both Jennifer and David. Nary a peep out of either for the whole of the trip (and they were not drugged in any way beforehand.)
The flight took just over 7 hours to get to Frankfurt, which was our transfer point for getting onto our next flight which would take us to Nice, France.
