Turning 40
Today I turned 40. Yup, the big four zero. On this afternoon of this day in 1966 a son was born to Mildred and Henry Roberts out of North York General Hospital, (which is why my birth certificate says I was born in North York instead of Toronto). That was me.

I remember doing the math when I was a kid, probably on or just around when I was 10: I would be 20 in 1986, 30 in 1996, 34 in 2000 (which seemed incredibly far off and futuristic from the vantage point of the US Bicentennial year of 1976), 40 in 2006, and should I be so lucky, 100 in 2066. Now all but the latter date has come to past. I am not a famous fireman, rock star or comedian (a few of my childhood ambitions), but I am happy being a "famous dad" to my two kids.

A random thought: my father was six years older than I am now when he had me, and my mother was 42. I am so glad I didn't wait as long as they did to get married or to have children.

The day itself was actually a fairly regular Saturday: in the morning I ferried the girls to their drama class run by the Young People's Theatre, then took Vanessa to her tutoring session at the Oxford Learning Centre in the Beaches, then to lunch. It being a grey sort of day, I took the girls to see "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown" at the local theatre, which ended up being much more fun and more enjoyable than the poor reviews I have read would suggest it would be. It was a fun if low-key sort of day.

In terms of life outlook, I would prefer to think of my lifespan as at the half-full than half-empty mark.
