I "Officially" Turn Forty

A day after the actual day, but the official day for the party.

It was a perfect day weather-wise: sunny and relatively warm. I was able to dig the patio furniture out of the shed and assemble everything for a pleasant lunch outside. I also dug out the bouncing castle for the girls. The patch from last year was still holding up, and Yo-Bob barked at the kids who were obviously having too much fun (without him).

A friend of Vanessa's turned up for a playdate, and I left everyone in the early afternoon in order to let the cobble things together for the birthday.

I had an appointment at place where I could get a good massage, a pleasant birthday treat. Then I wandered along a stretch of the Danforth and found a used book and music shop. I was amazed at the amount of vinyl they had, all at reasonable prices. While not intending too, I came away with several vinyl albums in very good shape: Juluka's "Scatterlings of Africa", Howard Jones' "Human's Lib", a Caedmon collection of Lang's Fairy Stories I figured the girls would like, Steve Martin's "Wild and Crazy Guy" comedy album, plus a recording by a Canadian actor likely from the 60s reciting stories by Stephen Leacock to a live audience. That and an XTC CD I didn't previously have ("The Big Express") cost me $20.

Made it back home in time for supper. I was presented by a "robot" made by the girls out of cardboard boxes and old computer parts that I had donated to them earlier in the day. And the dining room had been decorated with pictures the girls had drawn on paper balloons that were stick to the wall, and birthday ribbons were strung from the walls to the chandelier in the middle of the room.

The meal was my favourite: chicken curry. Yum. Then there was not one, but two birthday cakes, one decorated by each girl. A "4" on one and a "0" on the other, comprised of 40 candles, plus one in the center of the "0" for good luck.

Surrounded by family at 40. Not bad :-)
