Today was the day for the annual Beaches Triangle Resident's Association lawn sale. This has become an even larger affair since the Woodbine Resident's Association has also gotten into the act of having their sale at the same time as ours, and it also happens to be the same date that the Breast Cancer yard sale is held.
We didn't have a lot of stuff to put out this year, mainly toys, plush animals and a few kids books the girls had gone through.
Vanessa had a birthday party to go to so Annie ran her lemonade stand solo, making about $20 or so in quarters from passers-by. Quite the entrepreneur, she kept calling out "Lemonade! Get your lemonade here!" to everyone who came in range. It was hard for many people to resist giving a cute four-year old girl a quarter, and it was a warm day.
Annie ended up spending some of her profits on some "new" toys as I took her on a tour of some of the other sales. Didn't see much that interested me this time, and I came away with a couple of vinyl records (Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me with Science" EP, and China Crisis' "Wake Up (King in a Catholic Style)" 12" single) for a loony.
At the end of the sale our neighbours from across the street gave Annie a very cute little wooden doll-house with various bits of furniture and a small doll that went down very well. She ended up playing with that in her room for a good hour after closing up her lemonade stand.
Vanessa missed out on the lawn sales, but not on the free stuff that was available afterwards. My mother-in-law was away for the weekend visiting her mother in Ohio, so we had her two dogs to walk in addition to our own. On the way to the park we couldn’t help but pass by the leftovers from a couple of ex-yard sales, and both girls ended up coming away with more stuff. Other than on the basis of more clutter, it’s hard for me to justify not picking up some prized toy if it going for free. On the whole, toy-wise, we probably broke even. Likely fodder for a future yard sale...
