As a family we ventured down to Kew Beach park, where the local Lions Club had organized games and some rides for the kids.
The local MP was also there, handing out red and white balloons to the kiddies, while in the background a mix of good and "okay" singers were in the bandshell doing "Beach Idol". (There was at least one professional rock band that played during a break that would have put even Miscellaneous 'S' to shame).
The girls had fun, playing various games, climbing into an inflatable bouncy maze, and Annie got to ride an electric scooter around a track.
With temperatures in the high 20s, afterwards we headed to the adjacent playground where the wading pool was filled with happy kids, who were soon joined by two more. Annie took a particular delight in pouring the cold, cold water from the wading pool onto my feet, and then dash back to get another bucket's worth.
At the end of the day the kids were too tired for the fireworks that could be heard off in the distance around 10pm that evening.
