Saw this guy (a Green Heron) awkwardly perched in a tree down by Woodbine Park this morning.

I picked up a new macro lens today from Henrys Camera store on the way home from work today. Have been putting it to the test in our garden. Here are a couple of sample shots using the lens:

After several months of being surrounded by scaffolding, the restoration and renovation work on the local Beaches FireHall have been completed.

This picture is actually two separate shots stitched together, as I couldn’t get the entire thing in a single shot from my vantage point.

I know it is not to everyone’s liking, but I think the new lighting that outlines its facade is fun. It ought to be striking come the next Beaches Jazz Festival.

Given the clear evening skies and the fact that we had a “Supermoon” event (in other words, the moon was full and at the closest point in its orbit to the Earth) I dug out my tripod and took took photos of the moon with my telephoto lens. This is the result:

I lucked out and managed to get a good picture of the first robin I have seen this year. The previously day I had heard one, but never could see it. So this is the first one I had actually seen. As you can see, he posed for me.

Picture a picture of this little guy on a nearby tree branch, looking hungrily at the sunflower seed I have gotten into the habit of bringing with me when I walk with YoBob down by Woodbine Beach. Nice feather detail.

I had read in SkyNews that the Moon was going to be in the sky along with the planet Venus in this morning, and when I stepped out the front door, instead of heading straight to work I went down to the beach with my camera and took these shots.

The first shot, with the trees and the jogger in just the right place is my favourite of the bunch, and I pretty much knew it would be my picture of the day when I took it, but I kept walking closer to Beach, and the progression towards the water is what you see here.
