LBB on a Rock

I think this is a vireo, but am not entirely sure. It is an LBB though (“Little Brown Bird”). 😉

(Postscript: I’ve since been corrected in my identification; this is more likely a Yellow-rumped Warbler instead, and the pics at the Cornell Ornithology Lab site would seem to confirm this).

  1. This is a fall-plumage Yellow-rumped Warbler, not a vireo; the yellowish “wing-pits” are distinct, and all our vireos are long gone by now. This warbler sometimes eats berries in the winter, which is why it stays longer than other insect-eating birds.

  2. After taking a look at some of the pictures at: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Yellow-rumped_Warbler/id/ac, I think you are right. That’s one of the problems with “LBBs” (“Little Brown Birds”) — sometimes it almost impossible to correctly guess which type of LBB it is. Thanks for setting me straight!
