Victoria Day Fireworks by Woodbine Beach 2010

Took my trusty Olympus E-510 along with a tripod down to the foot of Woodbine Beach, basically straight down from where I live, to shot this year’s Victoria Day fireworks display. The one that follows is my favourite, which shows the fireworks as well as their reflection in the waters of the lake:

Here’s a selection of some of my other favourite fireworks shots from earlier tonight:

Tribute Along the Highway of Heroes

A couple of days ago, another Canadian solider was killed in Afghanistan. Was traveling down the Don Valley Parkway with the fellow I carpool with, and managed to take a few pictures from the traveling car of those people paying tribute to the fallen officer.

Here’s the one that came out best:

Red Admiral Butterfly on White Flowers

Love the big, bugged-out eyes on Red Admiral Butterflies. Here’s a shot of one on a cluster of small, white flowers that I ran across:

Bird Bath

It was another hot early-summer day, and I took the dog for a walk down by Woodbine Park. Caught this shot of a Common Grackle cooling down at the edge of the pond in the Park:

Double-crested Cormorant by Markham Resevoir

Went to nearby CTY to pick up a computer part, and brought my camera along in case I saw anything interesting in the reservoir. What I saw — besides lots of Canada Geese — was this fellow, a Double-crested Cormorant:

The patterns on the wings and beak somehow make it look more primitive-looking. Definitely wouldn’t want to be at the other end of that nasty-looking curved beak.

Orange Moon

I first saw this deeply orange moon coming back from work, and when I got home I got out the camera and managed to get a clear picture from the backyard.

Greater Scaup Ducks by Woodbine Beach

Saw a pair of Greater Scaup Ducks down by Woodbine Beach while walking the dog. Managed to get both of them in the single shot you see below:

Toronto Orchid Show 2010

I got to go to the Toronto Orchid Show again. Great place to go if you’re a photographer. For each flower I shot, I also took a picture of the label for the particular orchid, so all of the flowers are named, where a label was available for them.

One of my favourites was this one, which looks a lot like a woman’s lips:

Here are the best pics, winnowed down from a couple hundred shots:

Lions Toronto Easter Parade in The Beaches 2010

Another fun parade, this time with Vanessa helping out a friend by marching with a group of kids for “The Monkey Club”. In addition to the usual bands there was even a demo by a couple of members of the Harlem Globetrotters as well.

Deni Yang Performing at the Ontario Science Center

Took the girls to the Ontario Science Center, where we saw a performance by the bubble blowing master Deni Yang. The girls has a blast, especially at the finale when a gazillion bubbles are unleashed on the audience.

Took many, many photos, and in the end these were the ones I was happy with:
